Hallowe'en is a very old festival. It has its origins in the British Isles. "Hallowe'en" means"All Hallows Eve", it was celebrated the nigth on the 31st October. It was a special night for all souls before November 1st.

On 31st October: We have a party and play tricks at English class. Like this:

WITCHES RHYME:

This is the night of Hallowe'en,

when the withes can be seen,

some are yellow and some are gree

and some are the colour of a turkey bean.

"Trick or treat": Modern tradition of trick or treat was developed in the U.S., it too is based on folk customs brought to this country with Irish immigrants after 1840.

.

Today Hallowe'en is a festival of fun. In our school pupils dress up as witches and ghosts.


How to make hallowe'en lanterns? 


 

You need: a pumpkin, a sharp knife, a spoon, a candle, and a string.

First cut the top off the pumpkin. Then take out the middle with a spoon. Cut holes for the eyes, nose and mouth. Make a handle and two small holes. Tie the string to the pumpkin and finally put a candle in the bottom of the lantern.
